#Introduction - hi, I'm Curtis! I've just set up my own Mastodon instance, something I've been meaning to get around to for a while, but was prompted to specifically by the Twitter news today.
I'm a UK-based software developer, activist and ambulance volunteer. I'm a student in Southampton, but originally from London. I use he/him pronouns (#TransRightsAreHumanRights).
It's nice to see so many people making posts like this!
Today is a good day for Europe!
Ukraine 🇺🇦 and Moldova 🇲🇩 are granted the candidate status to become part of the European family.
Georgia 🇬🇪 is given the perspective to become a member of the EU.
The proposal passed with 1.15 million votes in support and 30,101 votes against.
One single voter provided 1 million of the "yes" votes, passing the proposal.
Been trying to renew my passport since 29 April.
On 18 May I was told my passport photo was declined as edited. Obviously, it wasn't edited... I guess that it was rejected because I changed the filename to "Passport photo". So, I resubmit with the original filename!
Today, it's been rejected again... but this time because "my face isn't centred". It is centred!
Why do I get the feeling this is deliberate to try and make people go to a Government approved photo booth and pay their chums money?
Acting unilaterally is not constructive. Violating international agreements is not acceptable.
We have today launched infringement proceedings against the United Kingdom for not complying with parts of the Protocol on Ireland/Northern Ireland.
USB-C will be the new standard port for all Europeans.
This means more savings for EU consumers and less waste for the planet:
🔌 mobile phones, tablets, cameras… will all use USB type C
🔌 harmonised fast-charging technology
🔌 unbundling of sale of chargers
(P.S. if you saw this on birdsite first - I normally post here first! this only took so long to take over to the fediverse because of problems with tagging people and alt text: https://social.mashed.cloud/@curtispf/108425920110102523)
And so much more that I couldn't possibly photograph, including volunteering at the infodesk, helping deliver Sneakernet postcards around the campsite, and just being able to meet up with so many folks I know from here and hadn't had a chance to see before. Can't wait for 2024!
Nottingham Hackspace (who I also can't find a fediverse account for - if they have one, please let me know)'s amazing BarBot, as usual!
Having a lovely chat with Matt Gray (of the Technical Difficulties, who I don't think is on the fediverse but is @MattGrayYES on birdsite)!
If you've seen I've posted some Tweets on birdsite that haven't yet come across here... I posted there first because I needed to tag some people who aren't on #mastodon yet, and AFAIK there is no way to do that with the crossposter I use direct from here. Then I realised that Twitter doesn't allow alt text on videos yet...
So, I will post my #emf2022 pictures on here too, but I'll have to do it when I get home to copy across alt texts etc!
